The Snugg

We have yet another relatively new company arrising that I seem to be enjoying a lot. Check out some of the reviews coming in the future..

Apex Armor

I'm trying to get a 6th Generation iPod Nano on hand so I can finally review the IKONIC case by Apex Armor, famous for their billet aluminum iPhone 4 cases.

iTimber Case

I know I reviewed this case a while back, but it's still one of my favorite cases of all time. It's one of the most high quality cases I have ever tested.

The Snugg Leather Case & Flip Stand for the iPad 2: Functionality Meets Simplicity

DSC_0042

I’ve reviewed a lot of iPad 1 and iPad 2 cases over the past year, and while I have had a lot of amazingly designed cases come along, I haven’t found one that simply amazes me and keeps the price at a very wallet friendly tag. The Snugg Leather Case & Flip Stand for the iPad 2 (albeit a pretty generic name at that) is about to change all that. The Snugg has designed what may possibly be one of the best cases that I have ever used for the iPad 2. Don’t let the simplistic looks full your eyes, because this case has a few tricks up its sleeve.

The Design
While this case may not be the most stylish and attractive looking accessory for the iPad 2 (Vaja, I’m looking at you), there is no denying The Snugg was opting for design over flashy looks, and it doesn’t look half bad when you take everything into perspective. The leather (or what appears to feel and smell genuine) is extremely soft and it’s nothing like Vaja’s floater leather that tends to cause wrinkles and slight creaks in the outer layer. Instead, the surface is flat, smooth, and very, very durable. I have yet to find a single scratch, cut, or tear at all. This case still looks flawless since the day it arrived at my doorstep (which was a few moths ago). While it may look boring, it’s perfect for someone who doesn’t want to add a whole lot of flash to their iPad and it would also seem like the ideal case for someone that wants to look a little bit more professional.

Openings, Cutouts & Extra Features
Going around the perimeter of the case you will find that you have perfect cutouts for all your buttons and access points. Larger sized headphone jacks and third party dock connectors will fit just fine due to the large nature of the cutouts. Also, while the openings for the volume switch, sleep/wake button, and silent switch are all opened up pretty wide, the angled nature of the iPad 2 can sometimes make for a difficult time when it comes to accessing these buttons. Like almost all portfolio style cases, the Snugg has implemented a flip stand that works perfectly for watching movies or playing games, although, it would have been a little bit nice to have seen multiple standing positions like a position for typing and surfing the internet.

Another very cool feature of this case that I find to be very convenient and handy is the strap on the inside cover of this case. To use it, you simply put the case into the stand position, and put your hand inside the strap, for better grip and functionality. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t exactly the best implementation I have ever seen, but the strap is very useful and quite strong for that matter. You can literally hang your iPad off the ground, shake it from side to side, and everything will stay in place and keep your iPad 2 protected from anything life should throw at you.

The Super Sweet Price
$39 gets you this case. $39. I have seen worse cases for the three times the price, and that’s no joke. The Snugg Leather Case & Flip Stand for the iPad 2 may be one of the best bang for the buck cases I have ever used. It could easily be asked up at a price of around $60-70 and I still would have given it a glowing review. $39 for a case of this quality is absolutely amazing and is definitely recommended if you don’t have $100+ dollars to spend on the likes of Sena and Vaja.

Final Thoughts
I have absolutely fallen in love with some of Snugg’s latest offerings, especially this one. Anyone who is looking for a very high quality case that combines a simple and modern looking design into a very ergonomic package should definitely consider checking out what The Snugg has to offer, especially for such a ridiculously low price.

Interview with Draco Design about the new DRACO IV case for the iPhone 4

page2_sidebar-01

Q: Considering other aluminum cases cost in the $70-$150 range, what will be the retail price of the Draco IV aluminum bumper for iPhone 4?

A: The DRAVCO IV comes with 6 different colors: blue, black, red, gray, silver and gold. Blue, black, red and gray colors are retail for $99. Silver and gold colors are limited edition with retail price at $119.

Q: So many aluminum cases found on the market today suffer from signal loss (with the exception of a few), what's the mechanism you have used for minimizing or terminating signal loss in the Draco IV?

A: We considered and studied how to reduce signal loss issue when developing and designing the DRACO IV case. So, when the DRACO IV is installed on the phone, the case frame is designed to mount (hold) to the glass surfaces of the phone both front and back, without physically touching the metal band on the side of the phone. And that’s the key to minimize signal loss issue.

Q: Does the Draco IV have support for other third party accessories, such as headphones, third party cables, etc?

A: Yes, the DRACO IV is designed with compatibility and flexibility, so the case supports for 3rd party iPhone 4 accessories.

Q: Will you be able to dock the Draco IV in third party docks?

A: Yes, the DRACO IV can be docked in 3rd party docks.

Q: How much lip does the case provide (lay on the table design, screen not touching the phone, only the case) on both the front and the back of the phone?

A: About 1mm on both front and back.
